The Audi e-tron quattro concept study that was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015 provides a clear indication of the final production version. Audi is preparing its international production network for the mobility of the future. Large series production of the first purely electric driven SUV from Audi will begin at the site in Brussels in 2018. The plant will also produce its own batteries. The company will transfer production of the Audi A1 from Belgium to Martorell in Spain. The Audi Q3, which is currently produced in Spain, will be built in Győr (Hungary) in the future.

The model rotation will benefit all the sites of Audi’s global production network. “The new model distribution will enhance our production efficiency and strengthen all of the sites involved,” stated Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. “It will allow us to utilize further synergies within the Volkswagen Group and to bundle key competencies.” The model decisions protect jobs and promote the internationalization of the production network.

As of 2018, Audi Brussels will exclusively produce the first battery‑electric SUV from the brand with the Four Rings for the world market. The Audi e-tron quattro concept study that was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015 provides a clear indication of the final production version. The sporty SUV will fit between the Audi Q7 and the Audi Q5 in the product portfolio. Equipped with three electric motors and a high‑capacity battery, the Audi e-tron model will offer a maximum of sportiness, driving dynamics and efficiency. It will have full everyday practicality with a range of more than 500 kilometers and will feature quick battery charging.

The Brussels plant will also have its own battery production. The site in Belgium will thus become a key plant for electric mobility at the Volkswagen Group.

In the context of this restructuring, the Audi A1, which is currently produced in Brussels, will be built in Martorell in Spain in the future. The Audi Hungaria plant in Győr will take over production of the Audi Q3, which is currently built in Spain. The site in Hungary already produces four Audi models: the Audi A3 Sedan, the Audi A3 Cabriolet, the Audi TT and the Audi TT Roadster.


Confermata la produzione della Q6 che avverrà nel 2018, in questo contesto Audi ha modificato la composizione dell'allocazione produttiva di diversi modelli.
La fabbrica di Bruxelles produrrà la Q6 e perderà la A1 che verrà spostata a Martorell la quale perderà la Q3 che finirà a Gyor dove vengono costruite la TT e la A3 sedan.

All non-core Audi car development has been put on hold as the diesel-emissions scandal has compelled the premium carmaker to speed the arrival of its e-tron Quattro battery-powered SUV, which the company has announced will reach production in 2018.

Allegedly, the board has diverted engineering and financial resources toward bringing its all-electric e-tron Quattro and hydrogen fuel-cell h-tron Quattro models to market, since Audi simply doesn’t have the resources to deliver the rest. “Everybody is of course concerned about the aftereffects of the diesel crisis, and the thinking is that Audi has to show people we are serious about these kinds of cars,” said a source close to the board.

“Every kind of thinking has changed since the diesel problems. We are pushing to bring zero-emission cars to market as fast as we can now—and pushing to do them right.”

Meanwhile, the Q4, the TT Offroad concept, and the TT Sportback have all been put on the back burner. The Q4, which originally was slated to go on sale this year, is no longer a confirmed development project inside Audi, meaning it couldn’t arrive before 2019 at the earliest. The TT models were part of a dream of retired Audi development director Ulrich Hackenberg to create a TT family of models within the Audi brand. With a coupe and convertible already on sale, there was an internal competition to deliver the third model. The slinky four-door was the favorite of the engineering and design teams, but it was the TT Offroad concept that won the favor of the finance and commercial centers of Audi.


“Every kind of thinking has changed since the diesel problems. We are pushing to bring zero-emission cars to market as fast as we can now—and pushing to do them right.

Instead, Audi is working feverishly to deliver the e-tron and h-tron concepts previewed at the Frankfurt and Detroit shows. The Frankfurt concept (at top) gives us a good look at the battery-electric Q6 e-tron Quattro. Positioned between the Q5 and the Q7 in the lineup, in production form it will have five seats (the concept has four). It will carry its three-motor layout into production, with two electric motors on the rear axle and one on the front to be used at low speeds and under light acceleration. As displayed in the concept, the electric powertrain develops 429 horsepower—with short bursts of 496 horsepower—and 590 lb-ft of torque, and it can reach 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds. Top speed is governed at 130 mph. Range, from the 95-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, is said to be roughly 310 miles.

For the range-anxious, the h-tron Quattro (above), due a year after the e-tron version, will deliver more than 370 miles of range and can be refueled with hydrogen in just four minutes. It uses a 121-hp electric motor on the front axle and a 188-hp version on the rear, which combine to deliver a total of 406 lb-ft of torque. Audi boasts that the concept has a 124-mph top speed and a zero-to-62-mph time of less than seven seconds.

Audi says production of the brand’s first-ever electric SUV will take place at its factory in Belgium, which will be devoted exclusively to that model and also will produce the vehicle’s batteries. Although Audi’s U.S. chief has said that diesel has a future even in the United States, it’s sounding very much like Audi would like for the moniker “e-tron” to overtake “TDI” in its association with the brand.

Secondo fonti americane Audi avrebbe cancellato la Q4 e la TT a 4 porte per concentrarsi sulla Q6.

Lamborghini sold an all-time annual high of 3245 vehicles in 2015 and is recruiting extra staff as it prepares for production of its next new model, the Urus SUV.

As revealed to Autocar by company chief Stephan Winkelmann in December 2015, global sales of the Huracán and Aventador comfortably eclipsed the previous benchmark of 2530 sales, set in 2014.

The company now employs 1300 people, and more than 150 assembly line workers, technicians and highly qualified specialists have already been taken on as the Sant’Agata Bolognese facility gears up for Urus production in 2018.

The growth trend is destined to continue during this year. Since January, 30 new production line workers have joined the company.

Other new hirings during the year will include technicians working in Lamborghini’s quality, research and development, purchasing, industrial and project management divisions, as well as technical production staff.

The production site is set to double in size – from the existing 80,000 square metres to 150,000 square metres in order to accommodate the new Urus line - and in total 500 further new staff will be taken on.

Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO said: “Lamborghini is experiencing strong, steady growth in sales and also in its workforce. We are getting ready for groundbreaking changes with the introduction of our third model in 2018, which points to stable, sustainable growth for our company.

“This is why our investments in human resources are more important than ever, as we continue to focus on excellence and continuous improvements in this new phase of the company's future.”

When production of the new SUV is up and running in 2018, Winkelmann anticipates that Lamborghini will “more or less double the volumes that we have now, to between 5000 and 6000 cars”.

RANCHO MIRAGE, California -- Bentley is hatching plans to introduce a sportier, coupelike version of the Bentayga, the brand’s first SUV.

Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer said advance design and engineering work on a performance-enhanced, fastback Bentayga variant are under way, though the program still needs formal approval.

The so-called Bentayga sport coupe is being developed to attract younger buyers to the venerable British brand, owned by Volkswagen Group.

Bentley is the first ultraluxury brand to market a modern SUV with the Bentayga. It will face competition when Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and others soon enter the fray.

“We anticipate most of them will come to market in two to three years -- 2018, 2019,” Duerheimer said of rival SUVs during the global media introduction for the Bentayga here. “When they arrive, I want to have an answer.”

While the final design remains a work in progress, he suggested the fastback Bentayga would resemble the styling of the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept coupe that debuted in 2015 at the Geneva auto show and also awaits production approval.

“Imagine the EXP 10 as an SUV,” Duerheimer said. “It doesn’t look ‘old Bentley.’”

Stefan Sielaff, head of design for Bentley since June, said several teams are working to come up with a final design.

Bentley’s global sales have topped 10,000 vehicles three straight years and Duerheimer expects 2016 volume to hit a record with the introduction of the Bentayga. The SUV is expected to become Bentley’s top seller, with 2016 output set at about 5,000.

The EXP 10 Speed 6, if approved, would be priced and positioned lower than the Continental GT and provide additional sales volume for Bentley. But some analysts expect the Bentayga sport coupe to be priced higher than the Bentayga.

The Bentayga and EXP 10 Speed 6 are being developed to draw younger buyers to Bentley. Sielaff said the challenge for designers is coming up with a sporty fastback that looks like a Bentley but offers a fresh, advanced styling approach.

The Bentayga is based on Volkswagen’s MLB-Evo platform used for the redesigned Audi Q7 and the next-generation Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg.

The new variant will also help Bentley leverage the $1 billion spent on design, engineering and tooling for the Bentayga, which is built in Crewe, England, along with the rest of the Bentley lineup.

“The Bentayga doesn’t stop us from dreaming and looking down the road,” Duerheimer said of the planned sport coupe. “The more success we have with it, the more we can take the best of it and run with it.”

Bentley officials said Volkswagen Group is expected to decide on the EXP 10 Speed 6 and Bentayga sport coupe programs near year end.

In a related matter, Bentley plans to use the Geneva auto show to introduce a freshened Mulsanne and a long-wheelbase version of the Mulsanne.

We’ve already told you that Bentley was considering capitalizing on the early sales success of the Bentayga by adding another SUV, and now new details have emerged to make us believe that will be a two-door coupe version of the luxury SUV.

Bentley invited us to a design briefing in London, where newly arrived styling boss Stefan Sielaff showed us a short video featuring images and renderings of projects the company is actively working on. The new Continental coupe and cabriolet were clearly recognizable, but another image was of a two-door SUV that, although it was a sketch rather than a rendering, bore a strong resemblance to the Bentayga.

We’ve heard rumors of such a thing before, and when we asked a senior PR man about it afterwards he confirmed that the coupe is indeed being worked on, and that it isn’t considered to be a separate model line within the five family members that CEO Wolfgang Durheimer wants Bentley to be producing by 2020. Rolf Frech, Bentley’s engineering boss, also was on hand to confirm that any new SUV model would have to have “clear space” above the existing Bentayga, which we’re taking as tacit confirmation it will be even faster.

By our math, then, Bentley’s five model lines will be: the new Continental, the new Flying Spur, the Mulsanne or its replacement, the Bentayga and its quicker two-door sibling, and then a fifth model that we’re pretty much certain will be a production version of the EXP 10 Speed Six concept from last year. A decision on whether to go ahead, and whether the production car would use a six-cylinder engine as rumored, will take place before the end of the year.

Lamborghini will target women and families with SUV

The Lamborghini SUV, due in 2018, "will be a game changer," says CEO Stefano Domenicali. "It will make Lamborghini different."

Forget what you know about raging bulls. Lamborghini wants to show you a softer side of Italian supercars with its forthcoming SUV, which it is targetted at women and families.

So says CEO Stefano Domenicali, who moved to the company's top spot in March. Since then, he's been calling for a change in tone at the Volkswagen Group-owned house. Where the sharp-edged V-12 and V-10 aggression of the Murcielago, Gallardo, and Aventador reigned supreme for years, Domenicali said, buyers can expect to see something different in the next few years.

"A bull is always aggressive, but I would like to give us a new philosophy toward the future: A bull can be gentle," he said.


Domenicali: "Lamborghini of the future is an animal that can recognize the beauty of people, can recognize the fact that we are going to a family-oriented business with an SUV.”

SUV is key

Domenicali's image efforts hinge on the new SUV, which will be based on the Urus concept unveiled at the 2012 Beijing auto show and due out by 2018. The CEO says the vehicle will double the company's annual global output but will remain on limited production at Lamborghini's new Sant'Agata factory. The brand sold a purposefully few 3,245 units worldwide in 2015.

"The SUV will be a game changer," he said. "It will make Lamborghini different."

The goal will be to make Urus immediately identifiable as a Lamborghini, both in how it looks and in how it drives, and to make it immensely "personalizeable" for a young (30-45) target audience whose members view themselves as the "protagonists" of their own lives, Domenicali said. The engine is anticipated to be a 600-hp, turbocharged V-8 engine, rather than Lamborghini's signature V-12.

Even more notable, Domenicali is hoping that a big share of the SUV's buyers will be women. This will be no small feat, considering that only 5 percent of the company's global buyers last year were female. That's roughly the same percentage it held even a decade ago, according to a Lamborghini spokesman. What's more, most of those vehicles were sold to women in the U.S. and Europe; the first woman to buy a Lamborghini in India did so just three months ago.

"I don’t think anybody has captured the heart and soul of the female luxury buyer" in the supercar arena, said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute, a Manhattan-based research firm. "It's not a question of money for women in that segment. The money is not going to be the issue. It's going to be: 'Show me you know me.'"

There is plenty of space for Lamborghini to claim. Nationwide, women buy 53 percent of all small SUVs and 48 percent of small premium SUVs, according to J.D. Power & Associates, compared to roughly 40 percent of all new cars.

The power of singles

Single women in particular are coveted potential buyers: From 2010 to 2015, premium small SUVs saw a 177-percent jump in sales to single women, according to MaritzCX, a customer-experience research company. More than two-thirds of female buyers reported their 2015 vehicle purchase decision as "entirely up to me," according to the report. Additional storage and passenger space, a high ride height, and improved fuel economy in new premium SUVs have fed their growing appeal to women buyers.

"Lamborghini is going in the right direction here," Pedraza said, noting the success of Porsche and its popular Cayenne SUV. "Anybody can be convinced, as long as there is substance to the argument. If Lamborghini puts out a product that is female-friendly, women will definitely flock to it and will change their minds."

The key to success in this new segment for Lamborghini, Pedraza said, will be to produce a product that women can use comfortably and often. "If you are going to do an SUV, you better understand that there will likely be children in the back; women transport kids, whether they are working mothers or not."

The brand will have to get women into the showroom and then communicate the quality of the product: "When women get to the showroom, the people who are ambassadors to the brand and the experience have to be impeccable," he said. "It all has to be seamless and honest and relevant—and by the way, human. If it can do that, I believe Lamborghini has a great shot."

Hiring and promoting more women to lead the drive will be essential. Representatives from Lamborghini said on Tuesday that they were unaware of how many, if any, women the company employs in top leadership positions; a quick survey of head executives on the company's press website offered no female names apart from that of the new American public relations executive.

This will entail revolutionary thinking at the 53-year-old brand, which started out making tractors in an industrial center in rural Italy. Domenicali said he's more than up to the challenge.

"We have a small company, but we know we can do a good job," he said. "And we are humble -- it's a different customer, a different car, a different network. We are top with regard to the super sports car, but this will be a different business."

Keep the good stuff

Lamborghini does have some non-negotiable stipulations, even with the new, softer-side efforts. It will always make its signature V-12 engine, Domenicali said. And while it will eventually introduce a hybrid SUV, it will never move toward producing vehicles that run on diesel. A totally electric SUV is a "maybe," Domeniali said, depending on how technology and regulations develop over the coming years.

After all, a bull is still a bull, even if it's a gentle one.

"Our customers want to feel the car, they want to hear it, they want to feel the vibration of the engine," Domenicali said. "They are expecting from us to be current with our cars and yes, to invest in technology, but at the right moment -- not before and not after."

Success at Lamborghini will have much to do with having the flexibility to change and grow, he added: "A bull can recognize people with a glimpse of the eye and be smart. He is not always aggressive in a negative way. He's aggressive because he is very strong animal, but the Lamborghini of the future is an animal that can recognize the beauty of people, can recognize the fact that we are going to a family-oriented business with an SUV."
