E' iniziata la fase di pre-produzione della suv Crossblue nell'impianto di Chattanooga in Tennessee, imho sarà un disastro senza limiti negli USA. L'immagine del marchio è collassata, hanno una capacità produttiva nella fabbrica americana di 300.000 vetture tra Passat e questa mega suv ( per gli yankee midsize), se tutto va bene nel 2017 sfrutteranno solo 1/3 della capacità installata. Non sarà possibile montare motori diesel su questo modello perché stanno ancora trattando con le autorità americane, ricorreranno ai V6 e al 2.0 TFSI plug in Hybrid. Meno male per loro che c'è la Cina.

CHATTANOOGA -- Volkswagen executives broke from convention while debating the name of the midsize VW crossover launching in the U.S. next year: They let the North American team pick it. Normally, a committee in Germany would have decided on a single global name starting with "T," following the pattern of the Tiguan and Touareg crossovers before it, says Hinrich Woebcken, CEO of VW's recently formed Volkswagen North America region. Instead, Woebcken says the new crossover, crucial to VW's post-scandal recovery hopes, will have a "bullish, much easier to pronounce, American-style name" unique to the market. He wouldn't give away the name, but he strongly hinted it wouldn't start with "T." To Woebcken, it's a signal that headquarters is serious about giving its operation here more room to run amid VW's broad effort to chart a recovery path in the U.S. "Two or three years ago, it would've been a no-go that the region decides an individual name," Woebcken said. "This is already an early sign that Wolfsburg is willing to let go." It's not the first time VW executives have pledged to revive the U.S. operation with more resources and autonomy. Different this time, Woebcken says, are the tools available through the North American structure. As head of the VW brand's now-consolidated North American operations, Woebcken oversees purchasing, engineering, product development, manufacturing, sales and marketing. Never before have all those functions been under one unit and executive in North America. Woebcken said the cross-functionality of the new role and the chance to lead a "new start" for the VW brand attracted him to the North American post. "We want to grow. We want to get scale. This is not something you do short term," he said. "This brand needs some years to really recover and step up then from there to a further profitable growth." That will also require resolving unrest among VW's dealers that has grown since the diesel scandal. Talks to address the scandal-related harm sustained by VW's 652 U.S. dealers have been in the works since June. Woebcken said he hopes a "potential solution" can be reached within the next month or so, but declined to discuss specifics about a potential accord. Woebcken came to VW from brake supplier Knorr Bremse, where he was CEO of its commercial-vehicle division. Before that, he spent 10 years at BMW in purchasing roles before rising to division manager of driving dynamics, where he oversaw purchasing, production and development for ride and handling for all BMW Group model lines. He was also heavily involved in BMW's U.S. plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he said. An industrial engineer by training, Woebcken says he has a personal affinity for the U.S. after spending his senior year in high school as an exchange student in Rochester, N.Y. His family has moved to a home in suburban Washington from Germany. "We have a short- and midterm view, and as we speak we are working on a strategy for where the brand wants to be in 2025," Woebcken told reporters last week at VW's engineering and planning center here. "We are pretty much done." He declined to discuss the plan in detail before its scheduled release this fall, but said VW would pivot near term to SUVs and all-wheel-drive offerings before an electric vehicle push to begin in 2020, which will include North American production of EVs, he said. In general, he said VW would field vehicles in large mainstream segments with prices and content to compete for volume with larger mainstream brands. At the same time, its lineup will be complemented by high-performance and more European-style vehicles where it can seek more premium pricing, Woebcken said. Near term, VW hopes to make a splash in key mainstream crossover segments with two models launching next year: the midsize crossover built at VW's plant here and the long-wheelbase Tiguan compact cross-over, made in Mexico. Those models, along with the Golf Alltrack, a more rugged Golf wagon with awd arriving stateside this fall, will give VW a short-term boost to aid its recovery from the scandal. A redesigned Jetta compact sedan will then arrive in 2018, he said. "We will gain market share out of this," Woebcken said. While he declined to discuss sales goals, Woebcken made clear that growth in the U.S. is essential for VW. Through June, its U.S. market share stood at 1.7 percent, down from 2 percent last year. "We want to build the brand story to a level that this brand is not seen as a niche player anymore," Woebcken said. "It's not a matter of surviving, it's a matter of being relevant." Il nuovo capo del Nord America Wöbcken ( il peggior lavoro nel mondo automotive è essere capo di Vw negli USA) è riuscito a imporre un nome americano per il prossimo suv. Giusto per far spiegare quanto a Wolfsburg non capossero nulla del mercato yankee, prima di lanciare la Touareg i dirigenti nordamericani dissero A) dopo l'undici settembre chiamare un suv con un nome che richiama gli arabi non è una gran furbata B) gli americani non sanno pronunciare Touareg Piech, con la sua solita protervia rispose che avrebbero imparato. Ovviamene la Touareg fu un flop anche perché caratterizzata da un'affidabilità imbarazzante. |

Il nome avrebbe dovuto essere Teramont per tutto il mondo, tutti i suv del marchio Vw hanno nomi che iniziano con la T. Dato che per moltissimi americani i nomi Tiguan e Touareg sono impronunciabili la nuova dirigenza locale di Vw ha imposto un nuovo nome, che in realtà apparteneva a GM ( il modello era una Cadillac). I tedeschi hanno dovuto sborsare una decina di milioni di dollari per i diritti del nome. |

NEW YORK -- Volkswagen plans to build another new SUV at its U.S. plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as demand surges for larger vehicles, the automaker's top U.S. executive said on Wednesday. VW Group of America CEO Hinrich Woebcken told reporters at the New York auto show that the automaker planned to build a five-seat SUV in Tennessee, but he declined to say when production would begin. The news follows VW's 2014 announcement that the company would spent $900 million to build a new SUV in Tennessee. VW will start selling its new seven-seat VW Atlas crossover next month. Woebcken said VW was shifting focus in the U.S. from a mainly car brand to a "family friendly" automaker offering larger, U.S.-built SUVs. At the show, major automakers said they expected the popularity of SUVs and crossovers to increase in the U.S. The share of crossovers and SUVs among total U.S. light vehicle sales rose to nearly 40 percent in 2016 from 32.6 percent in 2014. Woebcken would not say whether VW would add additional workers in Tennessee to build the new SUV. More new products VW will sell four separate SUVs in the U.S. later this year -- a figure that does not include the new one. The company said on Tuesday that it would continue selling the current Tiguan as the "Tiguan Limited" for several years even as it plans to offer a completely new, larger version later this year. The company also announced it was offering an industry-leading six-year, 72,000-mile warranty on its new SUVs. As part of its diesel emissions settlement, Volkswagen has agreed to add at least three additional electric vehicles, including an SUV, in California by 2020 and must sell an average of 5,000 electric vehicles annually there through 2025. Woebcken said he hopes that decision will help boost the company's image in the U.S. VW has agreed to spend up to $25 billion to buy back vehicles and resolve claims from U.S. regulators, dealers, owners and states. Il ceo di Vw North America ha annunciato l’arrivo della Atlas a 5 posti ( non si sa se deriverà dalla Atlas oppure sarà un modello differente) per il 2019.

Vw ha annunciato la produzione di una variante a 5 porte dell’Atlas, una versione concept sarà presentata al salone di New York mentre la versione di serie arriverà sul mercato nel 2019 ( sarà destinata anche alla Cina). Dopo un ritardo allucinante la gamma suv del marchio Vw negli Usa entro il 2020 sarà: 1) Tharek 2) Tiguan a passo lungo 3) Atlas a 5 posti 4) Atlas a 7 posti 5) suv elettrico a 7 posti 6) suv coupé elettrico.

Versione 5 posti della Atlas. Dato che la 7 posti è ignobile questa è quasi decente. Verrà lanciata in Cina nel 2018 e negli Usa nel 2019.

Questa Atlas a 5 porte potrebbe arrivare in Europa. Il posizionamento lo trovo alquanto complesso, dato che è appena piu grande della Tiguan Allspace e come prezzi dovrebbe stare al di sotto della Touareg. |

Diversamente da quanto avevo capito il suv giallo non è la versione 5 posti della Atlas ma una specie di Tiguan coupe’. La versione 5 posti della Atlas è questa e sarà sul mercato nella seconda metà del 2019. Un modo economico per permettere una maggiore utilizzazione dell’impianto di Chattanooga.

Oltre alla concept Atlas a 5 posti Vw ha presentato una concept per un modello pick Up su base MQB. L’idea è semplicemente stupida. Gli americani amano i pick Up giganti con grandi capacità di traino ( quindi telaio a langheroni). Honda ha provato con la Ridgeline ed è stato un mega flop e Honda ha l’8% del mercato non il 2% come Vw.

Foto dell’ omologazione in Cina della Atlas Cross sport. Un auto elegante, dallo stile coraggioso ma allo stesso tempo contemporaneo con un understatement nelle proporzioni e nei dettagli. Queste sono le parole che pronuncerò su questo suv quando verrò colpito da improvvisa cecità, emorragia bilaterale dei tratti e dei nervi ottici con successiva fulminante atrofia della corteccia del lobo frontale.
