Volkswagen Group is drawing up plans to set up Lamborghini as a more independent unit, and is discussing long-term supply deals that could make it easier to list it on the stock exchange, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

"Volkswagen is in the process of carving out Lamborghini, and to organize future supply and technology transfer deals," one of the sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The Italian sports-car brand, which is currently a division of Audi, could be partially listed, with VW retaining a controlling stake, the first person familiar with the talks said.

There is no formal decision to divest Lamborghini, a second person said, adding that the timetable of any deal remained unclear.

"This is a first step which gives VW the option to list the unit further down the line," the second person told Reuters.

A third person familiar with the discussions said the future of Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati was discussed during a supervisory board meeting last Friday.

The possibilities for how to electrify the Lamborghini and Bugatti brands through partnerships and investors was discussed, the third person said.

Bankers and potential cornerstone investors in an IPO have been approached by the automaker, the sources said.

VW declined to comment.

Group CEO Herbert Diess said Wednesday that the automaker will announce "important steps" about the company's future before the close of the year.

Volkswagen is reviewing what role its high-performance brands Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati will play within the multi-brand automaker as part of broader quest for more economies of scale, senior executives told Reuters.

A global clampdown on combustion-engine vehicles has forced automakers to accelerate development of low-emissions technology for mainstream models, leaving VW managers struggling to find resources to electrify low-volume sports-car models.

Vw si starebbe preparando a staccare Lamborghini.

Volkswagen's VOWG_p.DE trucks business Traton 8TRA.DE said on Friday it had agreed to raise its takeover bid for Navistar International Corp NAV.N to $44.50 per share from $43, closing in on a deal that would extend its reach into North America.

A Navistar LT Series truck is photographed at the Navistar Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, Indiana, U.S., October 12, 2016. Picture taken October 12, 2016. REUTERS/Jim Young/File Photo
A successful merger would combine the MAN, Scania and Volkswagen trucks brands with Navistar to create a global manufacturer, at a time when the industry is seeking ways to share the costs of developing low emissions technology.

At $44.50 per share, Traton would pay about $3.7 billion for the shares in Navistar it doesn’t already own, valuing the U.S. business as a whole at around $4.4 billion.

“Traton SE and the U.S.-American truck manufacturer Navistar International Corporation, in which Traton already holds a stake of 16.8%, have today reached agreement in principle that Traton will acquire by merger all shares in Navistar not already held by Traton, at a price of $44.50 per Navistar share,” Traton said in a statement.

A deal hinges on finalising due diligence, agreeing merger terms and related transaction documents and approval by the executive bodies of Navistar and Volkswagen, Traton said.

“There is no assurance that the parties will reach agreement on definitive transaction documentation, or as to the terms thereof or that any transaction, if such agreement is reached, will ultimately be consummated,” Traton cautioned.

The announcement follows hours of negotiations, with Navistar’s board saying the offer would need to be raised to $44.50 per share to win shareholders’ backing, hours before Traton’s $43 per share offer was due to expire.

Traton had already raised its initial $35 per share offer last month.

Navistar shares were last up 22.9% at $43.53. Traton shares ended up 1.6% at 18.02 euros.

Traton has struggled to win over billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn, whose fund held a 16.8% stake in the U.S. truck maker as of June 30, according to Refinitiv Eikon Data.

Icahn and two other activist funds, Mark Rachesky’s MHR Fund Management and Gabelli Funds, together own about 40% of Navistar’s shares, according to Refinitiv data.

Volkswagen Group is hosting preliminary talks with potential bidders for its Ducati brand to gauge potential interest in the motorcycle maker ahead of a November planning round, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

During the five-year planning round, VW will review the future of its Ducati brand as well as of its super sports car brands Lamborghini and Bugatti, they said.

VW is analyzing the future of Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ducati as part of broader quest for more economies of scale as it shifts to mass producing electric cars and as the company tries to more than double its value to 200 billion euros.

The review could result in technology partnerships for the high-performance sports car and superbike brands, restructuring, or other options up to and including a listing or sale, the people said.

Whether VW agrees to start a formal sales process at that meeting is still uncertain, but for a sale to be possible early next year, investors and bankers need to gauge price expectations and potential strategic fit, a second person familiar with the discussions said.

"There is some movement here," one of these sources said, commenting on the potential kick-off of a Ducati auction. No decision has been taken yet, the source added.

Two other people close to the matter said that VW is expected to launch the sales process in early 2021 and may mandate a sellside advisor before Christmas.

VW declined to comment.

VW attempted to sell Ducati in 2017. Bajaj Auto expressed interest in buying the brand in a tie-up with KTM. Other interested parties were Polaris and private equity groups Bain, PAI and Investindustrial.

A sale met opposition from labor leaders and was shelved.

As part of its next strategy review VW is also drawing up plans to carve out Lamborghini and has sounded out bankers and potential investors about listing the Italian sports-car maker on the stock market, sources told Reuters.

A listing could be attempted in 2021, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

Italian supercar rival Ferrari saw its valuation more than treble since Fiat Chrysler Automobiles listed it in 2016 though shares in rival Aston Martin have slumped since its IPO in 2018.

Bugatti e Ducati verranno cedute mentre Lamborghini verrebbe quotata in borsa.

Bentley aims to be end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030, with Crewe operations climate positive thereafter
Confirms move to full electrification – PHEV or BEV only by 2026
By 2030, switching entire model range to battery electric vehicles
Two new PHEV launches planned in 2021
Committed to reduce factory environmental impact by 75 per cent by 2025 against a 2010 baseline – including plastic neutral
Fully supports Volkswagen Group ambition of going beyond two degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement
Targeting truly diverse talent – 30 per cent of management population to be diverse, increase from less than 20 per cent today
Holistic Beyond100 programme transforms every aspect of the 100 year old company

Bentley Motors outlines Beyond100 strategy, targeting sustainable luxury mobility leadership.
Concept car
Bentley Motors has outlined plans to become a global leader in sustainable luxury mobility with further details of its Beyond100 strategy revealed today. With the promise to offer truly sustainable luxury, Bentley will reinvent every aspect of its business to become an end-to-end carbon neutral organisation as it embarks on its second century. The target is driven by a transformation programme across Bentley’s entire operations and products. This includes switching its model range to offer exclusively plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicles by 2026, and full electric vehicles only by 2030.

The announcement highlights Bentley’s plans to provide extraordinary mobility for the next century, evolving from the world’s largest producer of 12-cylinder petrol engines to having no internal combustion engines within a decade, reinventing itself as a leader in sustainable luxury mobility.

The Beyond100 strategic plan is an extension of two decades of forward thinking, innovation and achievement. Acutely aware of the responsibility to consider its environmental, social and economic impact, Bentley has transformed its 80-year-old headquarters into the UK’s single carbon neutral luxury car factory. In parallel, the luxury marque has grown to operate in more markets than ever before, 68, while creating a long-term, consistent, sustainable business model, a truly solid basis to build for a second century.

Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bentley Motors, said: “Since 1919, Bentley has defined luxury grand touring. Being at the forefront of progress is part of our DNA - the original Bentley boys were pioneers and leaders. Now, as we look Beyond100, we will continue to lead by reinventing the company and becoming the world’s benchmark luxury car business.

“Driving this change includes, and also goes beyond our products, delivering a paradigm shift throughout our business, with credibility, authenticity, and integrity. Within a decade, Bentley will transform from a 100 year old luxury car company to a new, sustainable, wholly ethical role model for luxury.”

End-to-End Carbon Neutral

Bentley’s aim to become an end-to-end carbon neutral luxury car brand by 2030 will be underpinned by a structured, business-wide sustainability programme. This includes the development of electrified models throughout the range, and further improvements on its operational environmental impact, that of its tier one supply chain and collaborating with its retailer network.

Bentley’s approach to redefining its business model will be built around its accelerated journey towards electrification. Having already committed that every model line will be offered with the option of a hybrid variant by 2023, with Bentley’s first pure electric model to be launched in 2025, Bentley is today announcing a move towards zero emission mobility.

Following the introduction of the first Bentley fully electric model in 2025 - Bentley’s first cradle to grave fully carbon neutral car - Bentley will exclusively offer plug-in hybrid and electric models only within its range in 2026. By 2030, this will change to battery electric vehicles only.

Bentley’s electrified future was previewed with the reveal of the all-electric EXP 100 GT concept car in its centenary year, which also featured a multitude of sustainable materials. These included 5,000-year-old copper-infused Riverwood, traditionally produced wool carpets and a leather-like textile upholstery made from a bi-product of wine-making. Bentley will continue to use only sustainably sourced materials throughout its current, and next generation of cars.

Last year, Bentley’s production facility in Crewe became the first luxury automotive factory in the UK to be certified carbon neutral by the Carbon Trust. This followed two decades of implementing innovative solutions, including a water recycling system in the paint shop, local tree planting, installation of a 10,000 solar panel carport, taking the total number of on-site solar panels to 30,000, and a switch to renewable-only electricity sources.

The Crewe facility will continue to improve its environmental operations. By the end of this year, all suppliers will have passed a sustainability audit, verifying their sustainability credentials. In the future, by the end of 2025, the company intends to reduce its factory environmental impact by focusing on energy consumption, CO2 emissions, waste water, use of solvents in the paint process and becoming plastic neutral. This will result in a climate positive factory by 2030, actively reducing levels of carbon in the atmosphere, while in parallel the business invests in renewable energy and forestation projects.

Financially Resilient and Recession-Proof

Achieving sustainable luxury mobility relies heavily on a sustainable business model, and Bentley’s aim is to become the world’s benchmark luxury car business, financially resilient and recession-proof. The challenging economic situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in Bentley undertaking its biggest change programme in a century.

This change programme was driving for consistent financial resilience through rapid productivity improvements across the business, and a fundamental restructure. Previously announcing a voluntary release and redundancy programme with the aim of a workforce reduction of 1,000 permanent colleagues, this figure was reduced to 800 colleagues, including around 200 contractor positions.

Furthermore, the success of this voluntary release programme has resulted in a much smaller number of those remaining at risk of compulsory redundancy, less than 10, although Bentley continues to investigate opportunities to avoid this outcome if possible.

The results from this comprehensive cost and investment structure has placed the business in a position to achieve a positive financial performance for the full year 2020, in spite of the extenuating external circumstances. This platform will create a sustainable, consistently profitable business model for the next 100 years.

Extraordinary People

Achieving sustainable value creation is in large part down to the growth and collaboration of Bentley’s extraordinary people. Designing and building Bentleys of the future will require a greater diversity of talent, achieved by retraining in some areas and by developing and attracting a wide-range of talent including digital innovators and creative thinkers.

Bentley will continue to work with local schools and colleges to develop local talent in South Cheshire, building even closer links with the Crewe Engineering & Design UTC, which Bentley is a founding partner of. This includes becoming the employer of choice in the automotive sector with a clear brand, vision, mission, values and purpose. Bentley is focused on attracting diverse candidates and is targeting a management population of 30 per cent by 2025 that is truly diverse, increasing today’s figure of less than 20 per cent.

The company is committed to handcrafting cars in Crewe for the next 100 years, whilst also preparing for a digital future, and has confirmed it will be investing in two new Research and Development buildings, a vehicle test centre and a dedicated launch quality centre. This expansion and greater focus on digitalisation reinforces Bentley as a values-led organisation, matching customer values of sustainability, innovation and collaboration, which is more important than ever in a digital world.

Redefining For The Next Century

Redefining digitalisation throughout the organisation extends to many of the brand’s valued customers. Bentley is building a network of connected services individual to the customer achieved through product visualisation, co-creation and a digital journey. This will deliver a truly 360 degree, curated customer experience.

As well as accelerating the product journey towards electrification, Beyond100 opens a new era for Bentley’s bespoke division, Mulliner, which now has a three-portfolio structure comprising Mulliner Classic, Mulliner Collections and Mulliner Coachbuilt. The recently revealed Bacalar signifies the start of this new age as the first member of the Mulliner Coachbuilt family and incorporates elements of the sustainable materials showcased in EXP 100 GT.

For 100 years, Bentley has defined grand touring. To maintain the brand’s reputation for delivering extraordinary customer journeys, means appealing to existing and new luxury customers who seek socially acceptable brands, driven to be pioneers and role models of sustainability, with Beyond100 placing Bentley Motors firmly at the vanguard.

Volkswagen Group raises investments in future technologies to EUR 73 billion.
The Volkswagen Group is pressing ahead with its transformation into a digital mobility company. As decided in Planning Round 69, the Group will spend around EUR 73 billion on electrification, hybrid powertrains and digital technology over the next five years. This was announced following today’s Supervisory Board meeting. Investments in Capex and R&D for future technologies will be raised to 50 percent from 40 percent of the Group’s total investments of around EUR 150 billion. Investments in digitalization will double to EUR 27 billion by mid-decade, reflecting the Group’s strong focus on building up software capabilities. Approximately EUR 35 billion will be spent on battery-electric vehicles. A further approximately EUR 11 billion has been earmarked for the development of hybrid vehicles of existing models.

“As part of Volkswagen Group’s investment planning, the Board of Management and Supervisory Board today set the cornerstones for securing the Group’s future success. The transformation of the Group and its brands and the strategic focus on the core areas of mobility will be consistently implemented. Considering the enormous challenges we face in the coming years, our financial basis is very solid,” said Hans Dieter Pötsch, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Volkswagen Group.

“Having set the course for a battery-electric future in the Volkswagen Group early on, we are now a global leader with our electric platforms and a broad range of electric vehicles,” said Herbert Diess, Chief Executive Officer of the Volkswagen Group. “In the coming years, it will be crucial to also reach a leading position in car software in order to meet people’s needs for individual, sustainable and fully connected mobility in the future. To that end, we have doubled our digitalization spend.”

Bernd Osterloh, Chairman of the General Works Council, commented: “The investments demonstrate that our Group walks the talk when it comes to transformation, electric mobility and digitalization. We will go fully on the offensive in the coming years. Yet, just as important as billion-euro budgets are a common understanding of the transformation and adequate planning reliability. This is where all of us – employees, managers, the Board of Management and also policy-makers – come in. As regards the latter, I am thinking in particular of Berlin and Brussels and hot topics such as charging infrastructure and high-speed Internet. Volkswagen is fully committed to climate-friendly, highly networked mobility. But for this, we and our customers need a reliable environment.”

The Planning Round is based on the expectation that the global economy will grow moderately over the next five years. Moderate growth with regional differences is also anticipated for the individual markets. The increase in productivity of 30 percent and savings in administration are to secure the transformation financially. In addition, the Group is systematically working on the optimization of its product portfolio. Thus, model variants, engine-transmission combinations and features that are less in demand will be streamlined in order to reduce the complexity and increase the efficiency of the portfolio. The planning excludes the joint venture companies in China, since they are not part of the consolidated group and finance investments in plants and products from their own resources.

Electric mobility and hybrid technologies

Volkswagen was the first automaker to commit to the Paris Agreement and aims to become climate neutral by 2050. Over the next ten years, the Group intends to launch approximately 70 all-electric models by 2030. Around 20 of these are already in production, with 50 more to follow. In addition, around 60 hybrids are planned by the end of the decade, slightly over half of which are already being manufactured.

The Planning Round envisages production of approximately 26 million fully electric cars by 2030. Some 19 million of these vehicles will be based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB), with most of the remaining seven million to use the high-performance PPE platform. The Group estimates production of around seven million hybrid vehicles over the same period.

Significantly greater emphasis on the key topic of digitalization

Due to the crucial role that software will play for Volkswagen’s future success, capital spending on digitalization will total around EUR 27 billion, double the amount set in the previous Planning Round. This includes spending on the Group’s Car.Software organization, which was successfully launched earlier this year. The goal is to build a proprietary software stack, which will be deployed in Audi’s Artemis project from 2024. The company's own share in software is to increase from 10 to 60 percent. In addition, a large share of the funds earmarked for digitalization will be invested in the mission-critical fields of artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and digitalization of significant business processes.

Transformation of Germany as a center of industry to be pushed

By investing in its German sites, Volkswagen, as one of the country’s largest industrial players, is contributing to a strong German economy, while continuing to push the country’s transformation into a more sustainable and more digital future with long-term job security. After Saxony, Lower Saxony will become Germany’s second center of electric mobility.

In Salzgitter, the Group will invest around one billion euros in the strategically important battery technology. In conjunction with its Swedish joint venture partner Northvolt, Volkswagen will build a cell production facility there that will start operation in 2024 and increase the competitiveness of Germany as an industrial location. This is a further key element in the successful transformation of the Volkswagen Group Components division, initiated back in 2015.

At the individual locations, the strategy of consolidating product families at multi-brand plants will be continued in order to leverage even more synergies between the brands and achieve further efficiency gains.

Wolfsburg will add a model to its portfolio: another SUV targeting the European market will roll off the assembly line from 2024. The site already produces the entire Golf family with all its derivatives, the Volkswagen Tiguan and the SEAT Tarraco.

In future, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will build the all-electric ID. BUZZ1 at its Hanover location, along with three fully electric D-SUV models for other Group brands. The Hanover site is thus accelerating the transformation to electric mobility that has already commenced.

At the Volkswagen’s brand plant in Emden, the transformation is also progressing rapidly: while the construction work for the switch to electric mobility is fully on track, the second electric model for the site has now been defined. In addition to the ID.42, the four-door all-electric Volkswagen Aero1 is scheduled to be manufactured there from 2023.

At the same time, the Passat currently built in Emden will be produced in Bratislava, Slovakia, starting in 2023 – together with the ŠKODA SUPERB family – which will leverage synergies within the vehicle family here, too. Moving production of the SUPERB from the Czech plant in Kvasiny to Bratislava will give ŠKODA the necessary capacity in the Czech Republic to carry out the brand’s growth plan

Quindi in cosa sarà migliore dell'equivalente coupettone audi? La possibilità di aver del legno dentro?

Dal 6.75 V8 alle pile, che noia... :(

Volkswagen Group will build a flagship electric car for Audi, Porsche, Bentley in Germany, Handelsblatt business paper reported.

The car, codenamed "Landjet," will roll off a new production line at VW Group's factory in Hanover, Germany, the paper said in a report published on Saturday.

The three row, seven-seat vehicle is being developed by Audi as part of its Artemis Project that is creating new technologies for electric, highly automated automobiles for VW Group.

VW Group picked its Hanover factory, which mainly builds commercial vehicles, for the Landjet because Audi's factories are too small, Handelsblatt said.

"The Landjet can go into series production quite quickly in Hanover and with less additional effort than in an Audi factory," a VW Group executive told the paper.

The Hanover plant will also produce the ID Buzz, a modern, full-electric version of VW's Microbus that became a 1960s icon.

The Landjet is expected to offer a range of 650 km (404 miles). Audi's version would launch in 2024 and versions for Porsche and Bentley would come later. Control of Bentley is being transferred to Audi from Porsche, company sources last month told Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe.

It is not clear if the production Landjet will be a sedan or an SUV, or a mix of both.

VW Group said on Friday that it will produce three full-electric "D-SUV models" for other group brands at the Hanover plant. VW's press release did not mention the brands that will get the models.

Handelsblatt said the production Landjet will be a sedan that will be a rival to the next-generation Tesla Model S.

Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark has previously hinted that the EV his company plans to launch by 2025 could have an SUV shape to allow for batteries to be positioned underfloor. This would give the car more space than the brand's traditional coupes and sedans, but with a smaller footprint.

Bentley said on Nov. 16 that it will switch its entire model range to full-electric vehicles by 2030.

Volkswagen Group is looking into potentially carving out its Lamborghini supercar and Ducati motorbike brands, it said on Monday, as the automaker seeks to streamline its operations and focus on mass-producing electric cars.

"We are working on our Italian legal structure," CEO Herbert Diess said, referring to Lamborghini, Ducati and design studio Italdesign, while adding that no decisions had been made.

Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters last month that Volkswagen was drawing up plans for a potential spin-off or initial public offering of the brands.

Diess was speaking after Volkswagen announced on Friday it would increase its planned investment in digital and electric vehicle technologies to 73 billion euros ($86 billion) over the next five years.

Diess said on Monday that Volkswagen would miss its CO2 compliance target this year by "a gram or so."

He saw business recovering next year, with the company planning for a return to pre-COVID crisis levels in 2022, he said.

Was genau plant VW mit Lamborghini?
