PARIS -- Renault Group posted an operating margin of 7.6 percent in the first half of the year, the automaker’s highest ever and already close to its 2025 target, helped by higher prices for its new cars, improved volumes and cost reductions.

The company also returned to a net profit in the six months through June, recording a net income of 2.12 billion euros ($2.35 billion) after posting a 1.68 billion loss in the first half of 2022. The loss was a result of the closure of its Russian operations in the wake of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

"These results are the outcome of our continuous efforts to reduce costs over the last three years and of our strategy focused on value combined with the first benefits of an unprecedented product offensive," CEO Luca de Meo said in a statement Thursday. "Our fundamentals have never been as sound and robust."

The previous margin record was set in the second-half of 2017, when it stood at 7 percent. Renault aims to reach an 8 percent margin by 2025 and 10 percent by 2030.

Among vehicles driving the revenue and profit gains was the new Austral compact SUV, which CFO Thierry Pieton said has the highest per-vehicle margin in the company's history.

Automakers’ finances are holding up well despite consumers being hit by a surge in interest rates and high inflation at a time when easing supply-chain woes improve vehicle availability. Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz Group both reported better-than-expected earnings.

Renault’s order book in Europe is at 3.4 months of sales at the end of June and set to stay above a target of two months through the year, the company said. Sales were up by 13 percent worldwide, and 24 percent in Europe.

Headwinds for Ampere EV spinoff
De Meo, leading Renault through a turnaround for the past three years, is pursuing a listing of the company’s electric-vehicle and software unit Ampere. The plan is facing some headwinds following aggressive price cuts by Tesla and increasing competition that are weighing on demand for its flagship EV, the Megane E-Tech.

First-half sales of the model reached 23,000 units, Renault said Thursday, with the majority of deliveries of higher-end version of the vehicle.

Concerns about the sustainability of Renault’s pricing strategy has led to investor pushback on the planned share sale, now more likely to take place in the first half of next year. Still, the manufacturer took a step toward the entity’s initial public offering on Wednesday, when Japanese partner Nissan agreed to spend as much as 600 million euros for a stake in Ampere after months of talks between the two companies.

The Nissan investment in Ampere is “modest,” according to Stifel analyst Pierre-Yves Quemener, and the IPO plans remain under scrutiny. Renault is proceeding with Ampere’s carve-out, due to be completed later this year.

Renault also is still dealing with some logistics troubles, leaving a high number of cars stranded at factories. Inventory as of June was 569,000 vehicles, slightly down from end-March, and transportation issues should improve during the second half, it said.

The company remains focused on efforts to produce more affordable EVs, with a target of 40 percent cost reduction on a car-by-car basis in next-generation vehicles by 2027.

Renault è riuscita a migliorare la propria posizione economica ma strategicamente io la vedo nerissima. Gli accordi con Nissan dureranno almeno altri 10 anni ma è solo platform sharing, sullo sviluppo software non faranno nulla insieme.
Renault si è legata mani e piedi a Geely per lo sviluppo di ibridi e benzina, imho non è escluso che in qualche anno possano essere fagocitati dai cinesi (naturalmente l’inquilino dell’Eliseo non lo permetterà). L’idea di De Meo di portare subito Ampere in borsa è molto criticata, in più i francesi non hanno la massa critica, se Vw e Toyota stanno avendo problemi con risorse 5 volte superiori a quelle di Renault mi domando come riusciranno a sopravvivere. Il piano di far inglobare Renault da Stellantis ancora è tenuto nel cassetto ma io non lo ritengo improbabile (anche se Tavares si è detto contrarissimo).

By the end of 2023, the alliance's purchasing organization "will transit from a standardized global model towards a project‑driven cooperation," Renault said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The leading company of a given project will have the autonomy to define the specifications and processes to match the product requirements of each company while complying with regulations for the related region," Renault said.

The new structure will ensure "quicker decisions and operational efficiencies along several dimensions: markets, technologies, vehicles and beyond, to support the implementation of the Alliance common projects for Europe, Latin America, and India," the statement said.

The new structure "will leverage each partner's geographical strengths, technical resources, and market expertise to support their respective strategic plans," the statement added.

Renault and Nissan finalized at the end of July the terms of a restructured alliance after months of negotiations.

Talks dragged on months longer than expected due in part to Nissan, which was concerned about protecting its intellectual property in future collaborations.

The July agreement freed both companies to focus on the more pressing problem of navigating the fast-changing industry landscape.

For Nissan, that means contending with an increasingly grim outlook for foreign automakers in China, the world's biggest car market, while Renault is focusing on creating a separate electric vehicle business called Ampere.

PARIS -- Renault Group announced the team of executives who will run Ampere, its stand-alone electric vehicle business, ahead of a planned stock market listing.

The carve-out of Ampere, which will be led by Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, became effective Nov. 1, Renault said Wednesday in a news release.

Renault plans a capital market day on Nov. 15 at which it will lay out its strategy for investors.

A listing of Ampere, initially pencilled in for this year but now expected in the first half of 2024, aims to extract more value from the company by giving investors more visibility and separating it from Renault's traditional combustion-engine business.

Renault’s alliance partner Nissan has said it will invest up to 600 million euros ($642 million) in Ampere. The two automakers finalized a revamped alliance on Wednesday that sees Renault reduce its holding in Nissan to 15 percent, from 43 percent.

Mitsubishi, which is controlled by Nissan, has said it will invest up to 200 million euros in Ampere.

Weaker electric vehicle demand, increased competition from China and market volatility are complicating the plans to list Ampere. Other recent EV-focused listings, including the Geely brand Polestar, have struggled after the start of trading.

Ampere's management team will also include Josep-Maria Recasens as chief operating officer, Vincent Piquet as finance chief, Gilles Vidal as head of design, and Henry Bzeih, the new software head who joins from Microsoft.

Luciano Biondo, the head of Renault’s ElectriCity EV production center in northern France, is head of industrial operations. In all there will be 11 Ampere sites in France.

The company will have about 11,000 employees, of whom 35 percent are engineers, Renault said.

De Meo, who became CEO of Renault Group in July 2020, has laid out an ambitious plan for the company that includes splitting off EV operations into Ampere, setting up a joint venture with Geely to produce internal combustion drivetrains, building racing unit Alpine into a full passenger-car brand, and establishing a recycling and “circular economy” business unit.

He has also given the Dacia and Renault brands more autonomy and created the Mobilize mobility unit, which also includes Renault’s captive bank.

Renault will reveal the launch of an additional "affordable" city electric car during this week's capital markets day for its new EV unit Ampere, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The move is part of the automaker's efforts to reassure investors and push ahead with the stock market listing of its EV business, which has been complicated by weak demand for EVs and increased Chinese competition.

The Renault-branded vehicle, which will be smaller than the planned relaunched version of cult R5 hatchback, is expected to be built at the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia, two of the sources said.

Ampere has said it plans to bring six EV models to the market by 2030. The new model is scheduled to go on sale in 2026, one of the sources said.

Renault ha annunciato una Twingo elettrica (naturalmente una nuova non quella attuale) per meno di 20.000 euro. Entro il 2031 arriveranno 7 modelli elettrici e la divisione Ampere dovrebbe raggiungere un margine del 10%. Avranno bisogno di fortuna.

A parte il costo della batteria che costa sicuramente più di un serbatoio , non vedo perchè una EV debba costare più di una termica data la semplificazione della parte powertrain.
Poi una citycar come la Twingo avrà un pacco batteria notevolmente più piccolo

I costruttori europei hanno tentato di democratizzare l’auto elettrica con risultati al di sotto delle aspettative. Tesla è l’unica a realizzare volumi e profitti adeguati in Europa. Nel 2025 arriveranno le utilitarie elettriche a partire da 25.000 euro, ritengo che sia necessari scendere a 20.000 (esclusi incentivi) per raggiungere volumi critici che faranno pendere la bilancia a favore dell’elettrico.

La eC3/pandaE parte sa 23.900 ma dicono che con batteria da 200km potrà costare 19.999 senza incentivi....probabilmente sarà quella la svolta.
R5 non pare sarà una lowcost come eC3 quindi costerà di più e per sta twingo mi sa che ci vorranno 2.5/3 anni.

A fine 2024 arriverà una E-C3 con autonomia ridotta, dovrebbe essere quella da 19.900 euro, certo l’autonomia di soli 200 km con ricarica lenta per me è un game killer. Bisogna sempre entrare nell’ordine che si venderanno molte meno auto rispetto ad adesso e che gli automobilisti dovranno fare dei compromessi. Stranamente Stellantis continua ad appiattire l’offerta dei vari marchi, Citroen, Opel, Fiat e probabilmente anche Peugeot avranno una variante di questa utilitaria/crossover elettrica.

La Twingo/Smart F4 termica veniva via a10/12 mila euro. Ma pensano davvero che la gente abbia l’anello al naso? Magari anche sì, ma le buste paga non mentono.

Mi trovi d'accordo al 100%, purtroppo data la furia ecologista totalmente accettata ed imposta da Bruxelles (n.b. sono sempre stato e sempre sarò un' europeista convinto) farà in modo che una porzione molto importante della popolazione europea non potrà comprarsi più un auto. È una scelta voluta. Dal punto di vista di oggi è un miracolo se le varie Renault, Stellantis e VW riusciranno a sviluppare auto elettriche con un prezzo base di 20.000 euro. Ci saranno dei compromessi ed anche pesanti per arrivare a questi prezzi. L'unione europea ci sta chiedendo cambiamenti pesanti, in Germania impazza il dibattito sull'esplosione dei costi per la costruzione di nuovi immobili, eppure i verdi rifiutano qualsiasi confronto e i socialdemocratici sono così codardi da non far volare una mosca. Intanto si spenderanno quasi 200 miliardi di euro per incentivi all'industria perché i costi energetici sono troppo alti. Siemens-Gamesa è stata appena salvata dallo stato. Giusto per ricordare.

La twingo attuale va da 15 a 17k euro. Poi ci sono, chiaramente, gli sconti, le promo e le km zero, ma ci sono per tutte. Se analizziamo il listino, un'elettrica a meno di 20k è meno di 3000 euro più cara di una twingo, di listino. Con una dotazione che surclasserà quella dell'utilitaria francese

Offerte in zona ... se poi scorrete la pagina della concessionaria ne vedete anche per altri marchi.

Dipende da tante cose, ma, sulla carta, sembrerebbero sconti interessanti.

Sospetto che dentro ci siano anche gli incentivi che però cambiano a seconda di cosa si rottama.
Se non ricordo male, anche le termiche possono godere di qualche spicciolo di incentivo, infatti tutti gli sconti sono "FINO A..."
