It has been revealed to Autocar that Suzuki will launch a Nissan Juke-sized compact crossover in Europe in 2015.

Myriad other models and updates are planned for release in the near future. Over the next two years Suzuki will launch a new model in the Volkswagen Up segment to replace both the current Alto and Splash models, a five-door version of the Swift Sport, and all-wheel drive for the standard Swift as part of a series of mid-life changes.

Another model on the drawing board is a more spacious B-segment car, in the mould of the Nissan Note and Toyota Verso. It will be designed to compliment the Swift and address the limited rear passenger and boot space of that particular model.

Suzuki is also considering the G70 concept, formerly called the Regina, for production.

The new and as yet unnamed Juke-rivalling crossover model will be built in Suzuki's Hungary plant alongside the new SX4 S-Cross, a Nissan Qashqai-sized model that's due to launch in the UK in the autumn.

Despite the new car partly keeping the SX4 name, it is not a direct replacement as it's a bigger model; the new Juke-sized model will be the replacement for the current SX4, which is committed to be built in Hungary until the end of March 2014 at the earliest.

The new model will be built on a shortened version of the S-Cross's new platform, but it will feature a much edgier design and offer a high range of customisation. Engines are likely to mirror the S-Cross, with 1.6 petrol and diesels with the option of front- and all-wheel drive, and manual and automatic transmissions.

A planned replacement for the current Alto and Splash will launch in 2014. It will be built in Thailand, with both cars being gradually phased out next year to make way in the range for the new model that's said to offer the space of the Splash with the economy of the smaller Alto.

The mid-life facelift for the Swift will launch later this year. Four-wheel drive is the big news, with two versions offered: one a standard-looking model, and another with a fully body kit for a rugged off-road look.

Suzuki's Swift Sport will be mechanically unchanged, but a five-door version will be added to the line-up next to the existing three-door car.

The Grand Vitara, Jimny and Kizashi will continue in the Suzuki range unchanged, although the Jimny will need to have ESP fitted if it is not to fall foul of EU legislation.

Suzuki's sales and marketing manager, Dale Wyatt, stated that the company wanted to achieve 30,000 sales in the UK in 2013. At the end of May it had sold 14,000 cars, in what's the biggest market for the company in Europe.

"40,000 per year may be possible with the new models" said Wyatt, "but beyond that will be hard work and we don't want to make any bold claims. It's about getting things optimised."

In realtà e' semplice.

Suzuki will launch a new model every year for the next three years to increase annual vehicle sales in its European markets by about 100,000 units to 300,000 by 2016.

The Japanese automaker is struggling to reverse falling European volume and has not posted a profit in the region since 2008.

New models such as the SX4 S-Cross compact crossover and a production version of the iV-4 subcompact concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in September will help the automaker, Executive Vice President Toshihiro Suzuki said.

"We will work hard to reach the target of 300,000 cars a year by 2016 and to strengthen our sales activities," he told Automotive News Europe.

Last year, Suzuki's sales in its 35 European markets, which include Russia and Turkey, fell by 13 percent to 202,000.

Toshihiro Suzuki expects the automaker's 2013 European sales to match last year's performance despite a slow start this year because of a lack of fresh product.

Suzuki's European lineup currently includes the Alto, Splash, Swift, SX4, SX4 S-Cross, Kizashi, Jimny, and Grand Vitara. The automaker's best-seller in Europe is the Swift with sales of 40,649 in first nine months, according to JATO Dynamics.

Suzuki will renew its Alto minicar within the next few years but the company did not disclose a timeline for the new generation's launch.

The SX4 S-Cross, which is a rival to crossovers such as the Nissan Qashqai, joins the automaker's mainstream products that have front-wheel-drive versions while the production iV-4 will have standard four-wheel drive and will target Suzuki's traditionally strong customer base of off-road enthusiasts.

Suzuki will build 100,000 units of the SX4 S-Cross at its factory in Hungary, the company said in a press release on Sept. 6. The company expects annual European sales of 85,000 units a year for the model. The remaining production will be exported to markets such as Asia and Latin America.

Off-road focus

The automaker will launch a production version of the iV-4 subcompact SUV in Europe in 2015. Suzuki has not yet revealed the iV-4's production name or disclosed sales forecasts. IHS Automotive expects Suzuki to sell about 23,000 units in 2016 in Europe and 27,000 in 2017.

Suzuki hopes the production iV-4's off-road capabilities will attract buyers in a segment that has become increasingly crowded since models such as the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008 went on sale.

The concept's iV-4 designation stands for "individuality vehicle 4WD" referring to the fact that the production car will have standard four-wheel drive. The iV-4 will join Suzuki's lineup of off-road vehicles that includes the Jimny and Vitara.

Suzuki executive Takehito Arai, who was responsible for the iV-4's design, said the concept was created with Europe in mind. The production model will be very close to the concept, he said. The production iV-4 will be built at Suzuki's Hungary factory alongside the SX4 S-Cross, SX4, Swift and Splash models. Suzuki has not yet decided whether the iV-4 will be sold outside Europe.

Suzuki's vehicle sales in the EU and EFTA were down 8 percent to 113,194 in the first nine months, according to industry association ACEA. Last year, the automaker's EU and EFTA sales fell 13 percent to 154,446.

IHS Automotive analyst Ian Fletcher backed the predictions for a sales rebound for the automaker. "We are expecting Suzuki's European sales to pick up in 2016 as new models are launched and the market as a whole generally improves. However, Europe will remain a tiny part of Suzuki global footprint, given its focus on fast-growth markets and its operations in India," Fletcher said.

India accounts for about 40 percent of Suzuki's global volume. The company pulled out of the U.S. market, where it had a share of just 0.2 percent, at the end of last year.

Toshihiro Suzuki said he expects the automaker's global sales to be flat at 2.7 million this year compared with 2012.

plans to launch six new models – revising almost its entire car range – between now and 2017 to underpin a unique sales charge it began three years ago.

The company, which recently showed its Celerio city car and is in the throes of launching an all-new Vitara SUV into the fast-expanding B-segment, has already lifted annual UK sales from 20,000 to 37,500 since 2012.

The company believes it can achieve two per cent of the market, or around 50,000 cars a year, when the new models reach customers.

"We'll launch two new cars a year for the next three years," says Dale Wyatt, Suzuki GB's head of sales and marketing, "and we'll concentrate on the big sales sectors. By 2017 we want to have two A-segment saloons, two B-segment saloons and two small SUVs in our range – all of them new models."

The plan, says Wyatt, is to have one "very rational" model and one more stylish, youth-image car in each of the three classes.

First of the six to hit showrooms will be the Celerio next February, billed as an 80mpg car with one model capable of delivering a class-leading 84g/km of CO2.

The new Vitara will be in showrooms from April, as a partner for the highly rational S-Cross. Next year's offerings will be a new B-segment hatchback to join the existing, successful Swift, plus another, cheekier A-segment offering, probably with 4x4 capability.

The Swift itself, then six years old, is likely to be replaced in 2016, and Suzuki is also believed to be planning an extra-hot version – quicker and more powerful than the existing Swift Sport – for the following year.

A renewed Jimny baby 4x4 – which Suzuki has been making since 1970 – is also planned for 2017. The model is likely to ditch its old-school, driver-selected all-wheel drive system in favour of Vitara-style electronics, but it will keep the lightweight, straight sides and compact dimensions that have always been the basis of its success.

Suzuki will debut two concept cars at next month's Geneva auto show that preview additional models to its European lineup.

The automaker will unveil these concepts in Geneva on March 3:

• The iK-2 subcompact hatchback. This previews a car that will sit alongside the Swift subcompact, the brand’s best-seller in Europe.

• The iM-4 subcompact SUV. This showcases a new model that will sego on sale alongside the SX4 S-Cross and Jimny cars.

Production versions of the concepts will be "additional cars in the range," a Suzuki spokesperson told Automotive News Europe.

Media reports have said that a production version of the iM-4 could replace the Jimny but the spokesperson said the automaker will update the Jimny to meet the new Euro 6 emissions standard.

Suzuki will roll out its new Vitara subcompact crossover in Europe starting March. The Vitara will be sold across Europe while the larger SX4 subcompact crossover is sold in selected markets, including Germany.

The iM-4 previews a subcompact SUV.

Suzuki sales rose 7 percent to 162,828 in the EU and EFTA markets last year, lifting the brand's market share one one percentage point to 1.3 percent, according to industry association ACEA.

Sales of the Swift in Europe fell 3 percent to 49,842 in 2014, according to JATO Dynamics market researchers. Sales of the Jimny rose 2 percent to 10,835. SX4 sales halved to 13,955, while SX4 C-Cross volume increased almost fourfold to 39,208

Suzuki presenterà a Ginevra 2 concept, una prefigurerà un'utilitaria di segmento B mentre l'altra sarà una versione moderna della Jimny.
